Saddle Up, Statesboro: Kiwanis Rodeo Rides Again This Weekend

April 24, 2026 by Jordan Walker

If you stepped outside this week and felt a little extra buzz in the air around Statesboro, there’s a good reason for it. The annual Kiwanis Rodeo is back at the Bulloch County Agricultural Complex out on Arena Boulevard, and tonight and tomorrow are still ahead of us. For those of us who’ve grown up here — or grown to call Statesboro home — rodeo weekend is one of those markers on the calendar that just feels like spring. The dogwoods are blooming, the Georgia Southern semester is winding down, and the cowboys are coming to town.

I’ve been going to the Kiwanis Rodeo for years, and every time I walk through those gates I’m reminded what makes Bulloch County special. It’s families on hay bales, neighbors waving from across the stands, kids with cotton candy on their faces, and a whole lot of pride in a hometown event that gives back more than it takes. If you’ve never been before, this weekend is the perfect time to start a new family tradition.

What’s Happening at the Ag Complex

The rodeo runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday — April 23 through April 25 — with gates opening at 5 p.m. and the main performance kicking off at 7:30 p.m. each night. The address is 44 Arena Blvd right here in Statesboro, according to the official Statesboro Kiwanis Rodeo website.

This is a real, sanctioned IPRA rodeo, so we’re talking bull riding, bronc riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and calf roping — the whole lineup. But even if you’re not a dyed-in-the-wool rodeo fan (yet), there’s plenty to love before the action even starts. Food trucks, local vendors, a bouncy house for the little ones, a calf scramble, a wheelbarrow race, and visits with Miss Rodeo USA Ashley Polson, who’s in town for the occasion per reporting from the Statesboro Herald and Grice Connect.

One important heads-up: tickets are pre-sale only this year. No tickets will be sold at the gates. You can grab them online at statesborokiwanisrodeo.com or in person at McKeithen’s Hardware right here in town. If you’re planning to come out tonight or Saturday, get your tickets squared away first so you’re not turned around at the arena.

Why This Rodeo Matters to Our Community

Here’s the part I love most as a local business owner and lifelong Statesboro supporter: every dollar you spend at the Kiwanis Rodeo stays right here in our community. The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro uses the proceeds to fund Memorial Scholarships for graduating seniors in our area. Last year’s class of recipients received $55,000 in scholarships across 27 students, according to the Statesboro Herald. Beyond scholarships, rodeo dollars support 4-H programs, children’s music initiatives, senior services, and dozens of other community projects throughout Bulloch County.

When you buy that ticket, grab a funnel cake, or cheer for a kid in the calf scramble, you’re helping a Portal High senior afford textbooks or funding a child’s first music lesson. That’s the Statesboro way, and it’s one of the reasons Walker Pharmacy has been proud to serve this community since 1984.

The Community Health Angle

You might not think of a rodeo as a “health” story, but hear me out. Community belonging is one of the most underrated predictors of long-term wellness. Research has consistently shown that people who feel connected to their neighbors — the kind of connection that happens when you’re high-fiving strangers after a great ride or sharing a picnic table at the food truck line — tend to live longer, manage stress better, and recover faster from illness.

For our seniors, events like this are a chance to get out, move around, and enjoy the fresh spring air. For younger families, it’s a chance to put the phones down and just be together. And for all of us, a little laughter under the Georgia stars does more for blood pressure and mood than most supplements on the shelf.

If you’re heading out, a few neighborly reminders from the pharmacist in me: the evenings are still cool this time of year, so bring a light jacket. Hydrate — actual water, in addition to whatever else you’re drinking. And if you’re on a routine medication schedule, don’t forget your evening doses when rodeo night runs late. You can always swing by any of our four Walker Pharmacy locations across Statesboro, Brooklet, and Lyons if you need a quick refill before the weekend gets rolling.

Walker Pharmacy’s Place in All This

Walker Pharmacy has been part of Bulloch and Toombs Counties since 1984, and events like the Kiwanis Rodeo are exactly why we love calling this community home. We’ve filled prescriptions for three generations of some families by now. We’ve watched kids we vaccinated as toddlers grow up, head off to Georgia Southern, and come back to open businesses of their own. That’s the magic of an independent pharmacy in a town like ours — you’re not a patient number, you’re a neighbor.

If you see me around the Ag Complex this weekend, come say hello. I’ll probably have a funnel cake in one hand and a grandkid in the other.
