On Monday, August 31, Chapman Healthcare Pharmacy, located at 305 Maple Drive in Vidalia, will become Walker Pharmacy Vidalia.

Same building. Same phone number. And, most importantly, the same familiar faces you know and love behind the counter.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Wes Chapman has been caring for Vidalia for decades. He and his staff know their patients by name. They know their families. Most of the time, they know what patients are going to ask before they even ask.

You do not build that kind of trust with a marketing budget. You build it one person at a time, one day at a time, over many years. I know this from watching my own dad, Lindsay, do the same thing in Statesboro.

Too often, the financial and regulatory pressures of retail pharmacy lead to closures or record transfers, leaving patients and employees out in the cold. But when Wes began planning for retirement, he wanted to do things differently. He wanted to ensure that his patients and employees came first in any transition.

Finding the right successor was therefore of the utmost importance to the Chapmans. In Wes’s words, he wanted to approve the suitor who wished to marry his “daughter.”

Wes could have gone in many directions with that decision. But before he ever got around to discussing the business side, he wanted to know what would happen to his staff and his patients. Those were the questions he truly cared about—not inventory, robots, or money. Wes cared about people.

Integrity and vision are not things you can simply write into a contract, but Wes was looking for both anyway—and he was right to do so.

Ultimately, through months of conversation, he came to trust our family and the teams at Walker Pharmacy and Walker Home Medical to carry out that responsibility. As the owner of a second-generation pharmacy and home medical business, he chose another second-generation pharmacy and home medical family to carry on the Chapman legacy.

What the Chapman family built on Maple Drive is something we intend to honor and grow for years to come, standing on the shoulders of the many hardworking people who came before us. We do not take the trust placed in us lightly, and we plan to spend the next few decades proving that Wes made the right decision.

The Team Is Staying

This is the part we are most excited to share: The entire Chapman team is coming with us.

By retaining the Chapman staff, we are not only protecting good local jobs but also preserving continuity of care and the longstanding relationships they have built with their patients.

The pharmacist who fills your prescriptions, the technicians who know your refill schedule, the voice that answers the phone, and the driver who pulls into your driveway—all will remain the same.

They will be joined by two experienced team members who came to us from Vidalia Pharmacy. Together, they give Walker Pharmacy Vidalia one of the most experienced pharmacy crews in Toombs County: people with deep roots in onion country and many years of caring for their neighbors.

That team is the main reason we were so eager to make this happen. We are joining people who already know how to do this well. Our job is to give them better tools, deeper inventory, and the support of a larger group—and then get out of their way.

The people closest to the patient should be empowered to make the decisions needed to serve them well.

Walker Home Medical Comes to Toombs County

This past year was a difficult one for families in this area who depend on home medical equipment. When Alliance Home Medical closed, Vidalia lost options at exactly the moment those options mattered most.

Oxygen, mobility equipment, hospital beds, and daily-living supplies are not optional for the people who need them. So Wes Chapman stepped up by expanding DME services at Chapman Healthcare Pharmacy and hiring many experienced employees from Alliance.

Walker Home Medical is a second-generation home medical company based in Statesboro. As part of this transition, it will begin serving all of Toombs County.

That means full product lines, a real person on the phone, and delivery throughout the county from our warehouse on Maple Drive—from Vidalia to Lyons and everywhere in between.

We are also proud to say that the home medical crew serving Chapman patients is joining Walker Home Medical.

The same people. The same vans. The same drivers.

Some billing procedures will need to change to comply with Medicare regulations, but the service, selection, and care will only get better.

If you currently receive home medical equipment or oxygen through Chapman, please listen for phone calls and check your mail for letters explaining your options. Medicare gives every patient the right to choose a home medical supplier, and that choice belongs to you and no one else.

If you choose Walker Home Medical, we would be honored. The same people who have been taking care of you will keep right on doing so.

When Vidalia Pharmacy closed its doors in April, we accepted its prescription records to ensure that no one in this community would be left without a pharmacy ready to serve them.

Since then, the team at Walker Pharmacy Lyons has been grateful to welcome many former Vidalia Pharmacy patients to our location in the Thriftway Shopping Center.

My parents started the business in 1984, and I grew up in it. Today, my wife, Kelcie, and I have spent the past decade leading the company and trying to be worthy of the legacy they entrusted to us.
